abba walked so that fleetwood mac could run

fuck yeah

They all divorced each other and then didn't break up as a band for another two (?) years

divorce albums

SUPER TROUPER

one of the two couples divorced in 1980, which is when this album was released. It slaps, obviously, and because of this aforementioned divorce we can see a few more deviations from the typical high energy 70s pop that charactarized abba up until this point, and also because it is now the 80s. please follow a-frontier.neocities.org for more high quality lyrical analysis of songs over 2 decades older than me.

THE VISITORS

Starts off strong with a song declaring solidarity with the victims of the USSR's authoritatian regime.

Arguably, none of the songs featured in this album really took off like in previous albums, but it's fucking abba. come on. banger after banger on this one. I wish i was more of a music person so i could actually say something thoughtful, instead of just going, fuck yeah this rocks. over and over again

the album cover features works of the swedish painter julius kronberg. it was shot at the exhibit displaying his works, with the painting eros featured in the center of the cover.

17 year old me wanted a tattoo of the painting eros because of this. i am not sure if that is actually a good idea,

VOYAGE

yeah they fucking dropped an album in the middle of covid after like forty years nbd. It has a song about shared custody of a kid so i feel like I'm not really in the target demographic here. But it fucks nonetheless. obviously.

faves

ANGELEYES, JUST A NOTION, WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE.

My favorite album of theirs is for sure voulez-vous. The whole thing is so high energy (mostly) from start to finish, which is exactly what i like.

the song just a notion was recorded in 1976 and was originally meant to be on voulez-vous, but they decided against it. I think there was a clip of it floating around until they released it 40 years later on voyage. It totally fit voulez-vous, and is therefor one of my favorites.
